The Endocannabinoid System in the body chemical compounds (Anandamine, 2AG, etc.) produced naturally in the human body by humans and animals that act on cannabinoid receptors. Activation of these receptors (CB1, CB2, and GPR55) results in the myriad of biological processes now thought to be involved with homeostasis (equilibrium)   of all major systems in the body. These processes include energy, storage, and distribution hunger/full response, programmed cell death (apoptosis), pain response, stress response and more. These receptors and chemical compounds compromise the endocannabinoid system (ECS) it encompasses a large part of our bodies complex cellular communication system (cellular and molecular biology).
